Professional Accomplishments

Dr. Clohesy is a member of the Master of Public Policy Program faculty. He specializes in ethics and political philosophy. He teaches and has published articles on ethical theory, business ethics, ethics in public policy, political theory and the history of philosophy. Dr. Clohesy also teaches a topics course in social and political philosophy. He is currently researching civil society and the place of nonprofit and not-governmental organizations in public life today. He has received two grants from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation for faculty development and research on civil society and nonprofit organizations. He edited Ethics at Work: A symposium on the Worker and the Workplace, (Iowa Humanities Board, 1992), the proceedings of a symposium held at UNI, funded by a grant from the Iowa Humanities Board/National Endowment for the Humanities.

 

Teaching Interests: Ethics in Public Policy, Ethics in Business, Society, Politics, and the Person, Ethics, History of Philosophy: Modern and Philosophy: Basic Questions

Research Interests: German Philosophy, especially Kant; Ethics and Political Philosophy, especially Hannah Arendt; Applied Ethics, especially Business and Public Policy; American Pragmatism, especially John Dewey and Charles S. Pierce; Phenomenology and Existentialism; the history of ancient and modern history.
